Using scraps of canvas fabric I have been experimenting with how to go about creating the COVID floral viruses with embroidery. I am not sure I get across the virus feel with this. It just looks like a round bush with some flowers so I am not sure where to go with this. Should I make more flower and cover it so its a ball of flowers? Should I stay with mostly greenery and if so should I fill it in so its a solid ball of green or keep it open as it is now? I attempted to give the illusion of mass by having light and shadow on the sphere but I do not know how successful that was. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

this is beautiful! I think I like the openness so you’ll be able to see your painting underneath. I also think the greenery adds such a bright color to your work of art that can then let you paint in more neutrals and the embroidery will still pop!
Emily Selvin is on IG and has a series of tiny death embroderies and also her Shushing Girl Series. Look at how she uses embrodery thread like paint. Take more liberties with color and be less representational. Keep up the lush qualities and just make MORE and MORE. Too early to judge-just make MORE! This is a wonderful new venue.
I really like your idea of embroidering the canvas. You mentioned that you’re concerned about creating two pieces of art because the embroidery takes up so much time. What if you combined the two ideas you have? Something like embroidering very obvious pictorial images of covid viruses and then having them transform into something more beautiful, like flowers.
