How’s it going, everyone? My name is Michael A. Beaumont Jr and I am currently a Junior at Lehigh University. I will be working remotely this semester. Since childhood, I have been interested in storytelling.
In my free time, I am a published Comic Artist.
I have had a comic strip titled “Mothers” published in the print publication, SEARCH MAGAZINE (2018 SPRING EDITION)
My professional debut comic, a one-shot titled “Second Serving” was published in the print publication, Saturday AM Issue 107. The website, The Geekiary, published a professional review article about this project.
I currently have a book deal with the company Saturday AM to create a monthly series titled “Change The World.” The project will be published on the mobile app, Saturday Afternoon, and is set to debut on March 5, 2021.
I am personally passionate about feminism and gender equity work. I have worked at Lehigh University’s Center for Gender Equity for about three years.
My comic project, “Gendered Vignettes” won a Williams 1st Prize Award in the Spring 2020 Semester. The project was a satirical jab at toxic masculinity, homophobia, transphobia, and gender inequality in everyday life.
My comic project, “Her World In Colors” was submitted to the Williams Prize for this Spring Semester. The project revolves around the complexities that come with gender transitioning. In this studio, I plan to make an animated adaptation of this project.
As a digital artist, I do my best to have an active social media presence. I operate under the pen name, Monitor, online. To help younger artists and others interested in comic-making, I started an educational Youtube channel last year. This passion project has quickly earned me a dedicated following
In only one year I have grown to 5000 subscribers and 250,000 total channel views. My most popular video has over 40,000 views alone.
To make extra money, I sell commissioned artwork. Typically, clients will ask me to illustrate fanart of their original characters, design artwork for their podcasts/albums, or something in between.
My latest, notable client is an investment company called Swiss Alpine Wealth Management. I was commissioned $700 to create the official artwork for an interactive narrative that would educate millennials about the importance/dangers of investing. The completed interactive experience should be available to the public in several months.
During my high school experience, I was an event/portrait photographer and videographer. I attended The Arts Academy of Benjamin Rush where I developed my skills in illustration, design, and photography. I currently still take photographs for fun, but I don’t take it as seriously anymore.
Graphic Design is a newer interest of mine that developed throughout my college experience. I have worked as a graphic designer for over 3 years at Lehigh University’s Center for Gender Equity.
I have also worked as a freelance graphic designer, creating advertisements, overlays, shirt designs, and social media graphics for clients.
That’s enough about me though. I am very excited to get to meet all of you and collaborate throughout the semester!
Thank you for reading this far! As always, keep creating.
-Mike
